38 Latin Stories Translation: The Judgement of Paris
Goddess Discordia, who alone was not called to the marriage of Peleus and Thetis, was moved by anger. So she has created in the palace the golden apple of the gods, in which to write this message :"FOR THE FAIREST." Whom ought the apple be given to? Juno or Venus of Minerva? Even Jupitor himself was scared to judge. And thus Paris, son of the Trojan King, that came for the 3 goddesses.
"Oh dear young man," they said, "What is your opinion on who is the fairest?" From which you chose a great gift will be given to you." Who did Paris choose? What gift will the judgor's mind be moved by? Juno can make him a king, Minerva can make him a leader. But Venus can however give him Helen, the fairist of all the women.
Paris is overcome by love and gives the golden apple to Venus. And therefore (if the rumor of the deed is certain) Helen was captured and brought to a new location, Troy. Because of the woman which war was being conducted?
