Ovid 9

Militat omnis amans, et habet sua castra Cupido;
Attice, crede mihi, militat omnis amans. quae bello est habilis, Veneri quoque convenit aetas. turpe senex miles, turpe senilis amor. quos petiere duces animos in milite forti, hos petit in socio bella puella viro. pervigilant ambo; terra requiescit uterque— ille fores dominae servat, at ille ducis. militis officium longa est via; mitte puellam, strenuus exempto fine sequetur amans. ibit in adversos montes duplicataque nimbo flumina, congestas exteret ille nives, nec freta pressurus tumidos causabitur Euros aptaque verrendis sidera quaeret aquis. quis nisi vel miles vel amans et frigora noctis et denso mixtas perferet imbre nives? mittitur infestos alter speculator in hostes; in rivale oculos alter, ut hoste, tenet. ille graves urbes, hic durae limen amicae obsidet; hic portas frangit, at ille fores. Saepe soporatos invadere profuit hostes caedere et armata vulgus inerme manu. sic fera Threicii ceciderunt agmina Rhesi, et dominum capti deseruistis equi. nempe maritorum somnis utuntur amantes, et sua sopitis hostibus arma movent. custodum transire manus vigilumque catervas militis et miseri semper amantis opus. Mars dubius nec certa Venus; victique resurgunt, quosque neges umquam posse iacere, cadunt. Ergo desidiam quicumque vocabat amorem, desinat. ingenii est experientis amor. ardet in abducta Briseide magnus Achilles—dum licet, Argeas frangite, Troes, opes!

All lovers serve in the military, and Cupid has his own campaign; Attice, trust me, all lovers serve in the military. This generation that is handy for war is also devoted to Venus. Aged soldiers are indecent, senile lovers are indecent. Leaders look for the minds of strong soldiers, a pretty girl desires them in men for companionship. Both remain awake all night, each resting down on the earth -- that watches over the door of the lady, this is the leaders. The soldier's obligation is a long journey; the girl is dismissed, the active lover follows without limits. He will walk through the clouds of adverse mountains and through doubled rivers, he will arise above thick snow, when pressing the straits, and he will object the east wind searching for stars that skim on water. If not the soldier or the lover, than who will face the cold of night and the dense snow and rain? One is sent as a scout among these dangerous enemies, the others eye comprehends his rival. These burden the cities, one the house for a friendly girlfriend, they shatter the entrances, and they shatter doors. Often it's useful to stupefy enemies and strike the unarmed people with an armed fist, so the savage army of Threicii Reisi has been stricken, and the captive horses take hold and serve their owner. Truly the married lovers make use of sleep, and move weapons against enemies rendered unconscious. Always it is the hand of a sentry and a poor lover to cross the gangs of guards and the crowds of troops. Mars is doubtful nor is Venus certain, the defeated will resurge. To those who deny they will ever be thrown down, fall. Therefore, who calls love at any time idleness, they will stop. Love is active in nature. The unhappy Achilles carried off and burnt Briseide, (while it is permitted, break the power Trojans) Hector went from the embrace of Andromaches to war, and, who armed the helmet on his head, was his wife. The son of the greatest leader, Atrides, was said to be amazed having seen Priameide's daughter's hair. Likewise Mars discovered and felt the chains of a metal worker. No story in the sky was more well known. I myself was sluggish and wore loose clothes, the bed and shading has also softened my spirit. Love for a pretty girl urged on me. She instructed me to earn money for her. Then you see me quick and holding nocturnal fighting. He who does not want to be idle, may they love.
