Who are Asterix and Obelix?

Asterix and Obelix are a series of French comics about two Gauls in the time of Roman occupation who help their town defy rule of Julius Caesar by fighting as protagonists of their towns. The characters drink potions brewed by the local druid which give them superhuman strength in order to defeat the Romans. These comics feature adventures of Asterix and Obelix around the Gaulish town, as well as around France and around the world. These comics are very popular around European countries, and they have a strong influence around the rest of the world, except for the United States. The 33 books published from the Asterix series are translated in more than 100 different languages, and have inspired many different movies and several video games.
