Lorenzo Ghiberti was an Italian artist that lived during the time of the Renaissance, mainly known for his works in metalworking and sculpting. Born in Florance and later moving to Romangna to escape the Bubonic Plague, he became famous in 1401 for completing the first set of bronze doors for a cathedral in Florence. On the doors for the church he depicted scenes from the Old Testament and New Testament that attracted many famous artists such as Donatello, Masolino, Michelozzo, Uccello, and Antonio Pollaiuolo. He was also a historian that would actively spread humanist ideas through his actions. At the age of 77, Ghiberti died in Florance.
