Diocletian: Emperor of Rome

Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus was the Roman Emperor from November 284 to May 305. He was originally born to a Dalmatian (not the dogs) family of lowly status, but quickly gained a vantage point of power at his involvement in Roman military, becoming a Calvary commander under the previous Emperor Carus. Upon Carus and his son dying on a campaign to Persia, Diocletian assumed his throne as Emperor by the army. His bringing into power ended the "Crisis of the Third Century," and his notable achievement under his reign is that he divided the Roman republic into a ruling of four rulers, a Tetrarchy.
