Epicureanism

Epicureanism is a philosophy based on the teachings and ideas of Epicurus, who lived around 300 B.C. Epicurus was a materialist that often attacked the ideas behind mainstream faith such as superstition and divine intervention. Epicurus believed that in order to obtain the greatest pleasure and happiness, one must seek a state of tranquility through the act of modesty and avoiding fear. Epicureanism believes that pleasure is holy and is the main substance of our limited lives, and true pleasure only comes from acts that are deemed good and modest.
