the Holy Lance (Lance of Longinus)

In John's account of the crucifixion, Jesus was pierced with a spear just after his death on the cross. The Roman soldier that pierced him, Longinus, was accounted as a roman guard with very poor eyesight. But when he wiped his face after spearing Jesus a miracle happened. His hand was wet with Jesus' blood, and when he wiped his head his eyesight came back. For the rest of his life, Longinus venerated the holy spear, where it would eventually find itself into the hands of many important Christians, such as Constantine. Later, in the 1800s, Napoleon Bonaparte acquired the spear, and prized it along with other christian relics. The holy spear even was acquired by Adolf Hitler in WW2, in an effort to convince Christians that his cause was righteous. I also heard on the history channel that 90 minutes after the Nazis lost the sword after it was stolen from Berlin, Hitler committed suicide. Now, the Holy lance is believed to remain in the Schatzkammer (Imperial Treasury Vault) of Vienna, and is on exhibit.
