The Ostrogoths

The Ostrogoths were a branch of the Goths and a notable Eastern Germanic tribe.
They established the Kingdom of Italy, a relatively short-lived successor state of the Western Roman Empire. At the time the Ostrogoths ruling Italy were also known as the Valagothi "Roman Goths". They reached the peak in their civilization under king Theodoric the Great. By mid-century, however, they had been conquered by Justinian's army in the Gothic War, which ended up having monumental consequences for the Italian Peninsula.
