Theodoric the Great

Theodoric the Great was king of the Ostrogoths from 471-526, and for a time a viceroy of the Eastern Roman Empire. His Gothic name "Þiuda reiks" translates into "people's king". He was made a hero of German legend, being included in several different types of epic poems, such as the Hildebrandslied and the Nibelungenlied. In many of these poems, he is often associated with true events that followed through in his life, and is commonly seen with Hildebrad, a hero for ancient Christianity. Often European folklore are included in the stories as well; in one story Theodoric catches a dwarf named Alfrich.
